Amritpal Singh: Fugitive Amritpal will be arrested soon, Bhagwant Mann said in Punjab-Haryana High Court

The Punjab government told the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday that pro-Khalistan separatist Amritpal Singh would be nabbed soon. Police had launched action against Amritpal and members of his organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ in Punjab on March 18 and Amritpal has been missing since then.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that he has asked the Director General of Police (DGP) to release from custody those people who have not been found involved in any anti-national activities. Mann, however, also said that strict action would be taken against anyone trying to disturb peace in the state.

On Tuesday, Justice N. S. Shekhawat’s court was hearing a Habeas Corpus petition filed by advocate Iman Singh Khara. In this petition, a request has been made to release Amritpal Singh from the alleged police custody. Khara had recently filed a habeas corpus petition. It has been claimed that Amritpal is in illegal custody of the police.

The court noted that the state says that Amritpal was not arrested. The court told the petitioner that it would appoint a warrant officer if he produced evidence to prove that Amritpal was in illegal detention. The next hearing in the case will be on March 29.
