The Indian independent music scene is witnessing a fresh wave of change — one that celebrates women, creativity, and individuality. Femme Music, India’s first record label dedicated solely to developing and promoting female indie artists, has announced the launch of its new sub-label, Nyima Records.
With Nyima Records, Femme Music is creating a strong platform for women in the music industry, focusing on pop, indie, and singer-songwriter genres. The label’s first major project, “Nyima Vol. 1”, is a compilation album that brings together 11 incredible female voices from across the country. Each artist contributes an original English track that highlights the new and evolving sound of global-facing Indian music. The album is set to release on November 28, 2025, and promises to be a major step forward in spotlighting India’s women-led indie scene.

The People Behind the Vision
Femme Music and Nyima Records are co-founded by Sanoli Chowdhury, a music producer and audio engineer, and Vinod Gadher, an experienced industry professional who has worked with several leading indie acts in India.
Together, they share a mission — to change the narrative around South Asian female musicians and give them the tools and exposure needed to build lasting careers in the music world. Their goal is not just to help women release music, but to empower them as complete artists — with control over their sound, image, and business.
“The idea of helping female indie artists grow and build sustainable careers really connected with me. Many artists today are judged only by numbers — likes, views, or followers — and often don’t have proper management support. Femme Music is here to change that. We want to guide artists in management, bookings, publishing, and even copyright protection.”
Sanoli explains it best:
Empowering Artists, One Step at a Time
What sets Femme Music apart is its hands-on approach. The team doesn’t just help artists release songs — they work with them from the ground up. From sound design and production to technical riders and live performance preparation, Femme Music is involved in every step.

The label has also partnered with AWAL for global music distribution and PRS for Music in the UK, ensuring that every song released under Nyima Records reaches listeners worldwide while protecting artists’ rights and royalties.
Both Sanoli and Gadher have drawn inspiration from the 90s Riot Grrrl movement, which used music as a way for women to speak out, express themselves, and demand equality. In that same spirit, Femme Music aims to give Indian women artists a space to lead with their voices and stories.

Nyima Vol. 1 – A New Sound from India
The upcoming debut album, “Nyima Vol. 1”, is not just a collection of songs — it’s a reflection of diversity, creativity, and raw emotion. It features a mix of newcomers and seasoned musicians, each bringing their own unique sound and story.
“We’re drawn to artists in their most natural form. What matters to us is individuality — how an artist interprets music in her own voice and style. That’s what makes her stand out, far beyond genres or trends.”
Sanoli adds,
The featured artists on the compilation include:
Aanchal Bordoloi, Aadya Jaswal, Anjali Manoharan, kokum, Meera Desai, Ro Maiti, ruhdabeh, Sahana Naresh, Tabitha Kagoo, Tiana Tara, and Zahrah.
Together, these 11 artists represent the vibrant and evolving landscape of India’s indie scene. Each song on the album aims to connect emotionally with listeners — whether through storytelling, melodies, or powerful vocals.

Building the Future of Indian Indie Music

In an industry still largely dominated by male artists and mainstream trends, Femme Music and Nyima Records are making space for something different — a platform that celebrates women’s talent on their own terms.
The label’s approach goes beyond releasing singles; it’s about mentorship, education, and opportunity. By supporting artists in all areas of their journey — from production and publishing to marketing and performance — Femme Music hopes to build a stronger and more inclusive music ecosystem in India.
As the world continues to discover the rich talent coming out of India, Nyima Records stands as a reminder that there’s no limit to what independent female artists can achieve when they’re given the right support and freedom to create.
