Law on MSP

Law on MSP unlikely: Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar after meeting with PM Modi

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that it is not possible to make a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops as it would put pressure on the government.

Khattar met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The two leaders held discussions over the three farm laws, which the central government has announced to repeal in the upcoming session of Parliament.

CM Khattar said while the decision to withdraw the farm laws sent a good message, it is not possible for the government to bring a law guaranteeing MSP on all crops.

The Haryana CM said if the government brings the MSP law, then it would come under pressure to buy all the crops which is not possible.

The farmer unions, which have been spearheading the protest against the three farm laws, have approved of the Centre’s decision to repeal the controversial laws. However, they maintained that there are several demands pending, including those related to MSP for crops.

Khattar said that PM Modi was worried that the farmers need to go back. The CM said he hoped that farmers would go back as soon as the three agri laws are repealed in Parliament.
