From Indus Valley Civilization to Tokyo Olympics, from Mahabharata war to 3rd Battle of Panipat, Haryana state has a significant presence. Haryana has established as a separate state on 1 NOVEMBER 1966 from Punjab.
Since Haryana was part of Punjab, it has a great history. Today Haryana is India’s 2nd highest per capita income state with 100% rural electrification. Also, Haryana has a share in India’s GDP which is 3.6% and a 13% growth rate is above the national average. The main motive of this article analyzes Haryana where we will understand the multiple dimensions. We will observe Haryana from ancient History till the present day.
HISTORY
The history of Haryana can be traced to Indus Valley Civilization. Rakhigarhi and Bhirrana in Haryana are Indus Valley sites that are more than 9000 years old where much historical evidence are found. Rakhigarhi is claimed as the largest site of Harappan Civilisation by some archaeologists. Haryana was part of the Kuru Kingdom in Vedic times and in Kurukshetra, there was a war between Kaurava’s and Pandava’s. Thanesar was the capital of Haryana in the 7th century and in the 10th century, Anangpal Tomar was a great king. Then in 1398, the invasion of Timur ruined Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kathal, Panipat. Mughal rule was established by Babur after defeating Lodhis in the Battle of Panipat in 1526. In the 2nd Battle of Panipat Akbar defeated Hemu. And in the 3rd Battle of Panipat Ahmed Shah Abdali defeated Marathas.
The geography of Haryana is very important. Haryana was established through the Punjab Reorganisation act on 1 NOVEMBER 1966. The Indian government set up the Shah Commission to settle the language dispute which led to the separation of Haryana from Punjab. The first CM of Haryana was Shri Bhagwat Dayal Sharma. Chandigarh is the common capital of Punjab and Haryana. Major crops started growing due to the green revolution from 1966 to 1971.
The negative impacts of the green revolution like groundwater depletion and soil degradation had a great loss. But Today Haryana is self-sufficient for food production. Till 1966 majority of industries were concentrated in Punjab. Taking advantage of close proximity with Delhi, Haryana pursued industrial policies, Faridabad and Gurgaon emerged as commercial and business hubs. From 2021- 22 state GDP will remain 8.8 lakh crores.
Today Haryana hosts most of the automotive companies like 2/3 of cars, 50% tractors, 50% of refrigerators and 60% of motorcycles. According to Government Sources in 2020 Haryana exported 325.36 million dollars worth of electrical goods. The sex ratio in Haryana, 906 girls and 1000 boys is the lowest compared to the previous few years. The crime against women is very high like gang rapes and female foeticides. The ground water of Haryana has dropped more than 50%. There are negative impacts on the environment due to industrial rise and stubble burning.
HARYANA IN TODAY’S WORLD
The government is taking many steps to improve many problems of Haryana. Firstly for women, there are many schemes like “LADLI SCHEMES”, “VIVAH SHGUN YOJNA” and “DEVI RUPAK”. The government has focused on girls and boys overall development and educational achievements. Pensions schemes are also launched. The government had setup the sports nurseries for boys and girls where free hostels, kits and training are provided. So this was the journey of Haryana from 1966 till now
