Ameesha Patel Confirms She Will Never Portray a Mother-in-Law, Not Even for the Gadar Franchise

Ameesha Patel Exclusive interview: In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel has firmly stated that she will never play a mother-in-law, even for the highly popular Gadar franchise. This declaration comes amidst the buzz surrounding the announcement of Gadar 3 by filmmaker Anil Sharma, following the immense success of the first two films, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Gadar 2.

Ameesha Patel, known for her iconic role as Sakina in the Gadar series, has expressed her unwillingness to take on the role of a mother-in-law, despite previously portraying a mother in the franchise. She emphasized, “I will never play a mother-in-law, ever, not for the Gadar brand, not for any other hero, producer, director. Ever.”

Ameesha Patel Rules Out Mother-in-Law Role in Gadar 3

Reflecting on the climax of Gadar 2, Patel highlighted the focus on the core family unit of Tara, Sakina, and their son Jeete. She noted that although Jeete had a love interest in Gadar 2, there was no acknowledgement from Sakina, and the film concluded with a poignant family moment. “It ends with the Taj Mahal shot, which was the memento and the symbol of love of Tara and Sakina. So, it will always be about Tara and Sakina. I don’t think there’s a place for another person to enter,” she said.

Patel’s decision is rooted in her initial risk of playing a mother in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, a choice she made despite industry advice against it. Her conviction in the film’s script and its subsequent success at the box office in 2001 reinforced her decision. She reprised her role as a mother in Gadar 2 due to the continuation of the story, but she remains adamant about not taking on the mother-in-law role in any future projects, including Gadar 3.

“I took that risk only because I fell in love with the film script, and by the grace of God, it was executed to the highest level. Gadar rewrote history at the box office in 2001. Similarly, I played a mother again for Gadar 2 because it was a carry-forward. But would Ameesha Patel play a mother or mother-in-law for any other brand, any production, any hero, or any director? No, she would not,” Patel asserted.

As fans eagerly anticipate Gadar 3, it is clear that Ameesha Patel’s portrayal of Sakina will continue to be defined by her strong convictions and dedication to the essence of her character.
