Bihar Assembly Elections 2025:
The term of the current Bihar Assembly ends on 22 November 2025. This means the Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce polls between June–November 2025. Preparations are already underway—around 280 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have undergone the first-ever national-level training in Patna. Senior ECI officials looked into the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Their goal was to ensure there are not more than 1,200 voters per booth. But, this sparked controversy, as opposition parties accused the EC of “conspiring to remove voters” in bulk.
Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The Voter List Controversy
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has become the focal point of debate.
- Opposition stance: Congress, RJD, and Left parties allege that millions of voters have been wrongly removed. Leaders like Kapil Sibal questioned, “If termites have eaten the voter list, how will elections be free and fair?”
- Rahul Gandhi’s protest: He criticized the Election Commission for “not meeting the opposition” to discuss the concerns.
This battle over voter rolls is one of the most decisive issues of Bihar 2025.
Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The Major Political Players

1. NDA (BJP + JD(U) + Allies)
- Development push: CM Nitish Kumar and the NDA are focusing on welfare schemes for women, unemployed youth, and pension benefits. Big industrial packages and infrastructure projects are being highlighted.
- PM Modi’s role: Recently, the PM launched ₹13,000 crore worth of projects in Bihar. He criticized RJD for taking the state back to the “lantern era.”
- Caste & social outreach: BJP is commemorating Jyotiba Phule’s 200th anniversary to attract Dalit, OBC, and women voters.
- Unity drive: NDA cadres are being mobilized under the slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas.”
2. INDIA Bloc (RJD + Congress + Left + VIP, etc.)
- Welfarist agenda: INDIA alliance is preparing a “bouquet of welfare schemes.” This includes a monthly allowance for women and unemployed youth. There is also free healthcare insurance, pensions, and scholarships for poor children.
- Bihari Pride: They are pushing a “Bihari identity vs Delhi’s proxy rule” narrative to counter NDA’s central dominance.
- Rahul Gandhi’s march: A 1,300 km Bharat Jodo-style Yatra has begun. It covers 20 districts. The journey will culminate with a mega rally at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on September 1, 2025.
3. Jan Suraaj Party (Prashant Kishor’s initiative)
- Independent approach: PK has clarified he will not ally with any party. Even if he doesn’t win a majority, he will stay in opposition and continue building his movement.
- Muslim outreach: At the Bihar Badlo Sammelan in Patna, PK urged the Muslim community to mobilize. He stated that even 20% of Hindu voters siding with them can defeat BJP.
- Grassroots base: His padyatra has covered 5,000+ villages. The party has been formally structured. Uday Singh is the national president.
4. Smaller Players – LJP(R), VIP & Tej Pratap Yadav
- LJP(R) (Chirag Paswan): Reviving “Bihar First, Bihari First” campaign focused on jobs, infrastructure, and corruption-free governance.
- VIP (Mukesh Sahani): Banking on Nishad community votes, shifting between NDA and INDIA alliances strategically.
- Tej Pratap Yadav: Floated a new party—Janshakti Janata Dal—and allied with 5 smaller outfits, preparing to contest independently.

Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: Final Word
Bihar Elections 2025 are shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested battles in recent history.
- NDA is banking on development + Modi factor.
- INDIA Bloc is countering with welfare populism + local pride.
- Jan Suraaj is pitching clean politics.
- Smaller regional players like LJP(R) and VIP could play kingmakers if results are fragmented.
For Bihar’s 7+ crore voters, the choice will be whether they want continuity with NDA’s governance. They could choose a social justice & welfare alternative via INDIA. Another option is a new experiment with Jan Suraaj.
