Haryana Home and Health Minister, Anil Vij, conducted an inspection of the markets and colonies in Ambala Cantonment during heavy rain. He stated that timely cleaning of drains helped in draining out the water despite the heavy rainfall. In areas where water remained, he directed officials to take necessary measures for drainage.
To address issues related to waterlogging during rains, a helpdesk number (0171-2643200) has been provided by the city council. Staff and equipment have been deployed at the helpdesk, and if any problem arises, the council will send staff to the location. Anil Vij also assessed the water level of the Tangri River bridge and instructed officials to prevent river water from entering nearby areas like Preet Nagar, Aman Nagar, and Lucky Nagar.
During his inspection, Anil Vij visited Preet Nagar, Ekta Vihar, Rambagh Road, Sadar Bazar, Outer Road, Mahesh Nagar, and other areas to assess the situation. He also visited the Maheshnagar Pump House and directed the Irrigation Department officials to arrange big generators to ensure the uninterrupted pumping of water in case of a power failure.
Anil Vij held a meeting with the city council officials and discussed drainage-related matters. The City Council Administrator informed him that Ambala had received more than 250 mm of rain within one and a half days, but the drainage work in colonies and markets had been completed. The National Action Plan (NAP) team was stationed at various locations since morning.
Anil Vij mentioned that despite being a holiday, all officers and workers were inspecting different areas of the cantonment to assist the people. Regarding the collapse of the roof of a room in Maheshnagar police station, he stated that land had been acquired for the construction of a new police station. A new building would be constructed soon, and the old one would be repaired.
Prior to the monsoon, Anil Vij had been holding meetings with officials to emphasize the importance of drain cleaning. Due to these efforts, Ambala Cantonment did not face significant waterlogging issues despite heavy rainfall.
Several officials and individuals were present during the inspection, including Municipal Council Administrator Satendra Siwach, EO Jarnail Singh, XEN Mandeep Singh, Secretary Rajesh Kumar, BJP Mandal President Rajiv Gupta Dimple, Ajay Parashar, Deputy President Surendra Tiwari, Anil Kaushal, Shyam Sundar Arora, Ajay Baweja, Kamal Kishore Jain, Vineet Jain, Deepak Bhasin, and others.
