In the early hours of Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Indian Army executed a precise and strategic operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian region, neutralizing three hardcore terrorists. This operation, known as Operation Keller, was launched in response to actionable intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. The mission led to the elimination of terrorists and a major boost to the security forces’ ongoing efforts in combating terrorism.

The operation began when a unit of the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles conducted a search-and-destroy mission in the Shoekal Keller area of Shopian. Based on specific intelligence reports, the army had been alerted to the presence of terrorists hiding in the dense forests of the region. Upon the security personnel’s approach, the terrorists opened heavy fire, leading to a violent clash.
An intense gunfight broke out, lasting several hours. Despite the terrorists’ strong resistance, the Indian Army responded with precision and professionalism, resulting in the neutralization of three militants. According to a statement shared by the Indian Army on X (formerly Twitter), they confirmed the success of Operation Keller and the elimination of these hardcore terrorists.
A senior police officer shared additional details, explaining that the operation targeted terrorists from the infamous Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group. These terrorists were hiding in the Shukroo forest area, and their elimination is seen as a major success in the region’s fight against terror. The joint cordon-and-search operation involved extensive surveillance and strategic planning to ensure the safety of both the military personnel and civilians in the area.
Operation Keller comes at a time of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The military operation follows closely behind Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the Pahalgam massacre that took place on April 22, 2025. In that attack, 26 people, mostly tourists, tragically lost their lives. India, as a response, initiated diplomatic measures to hold Pakistan accountable for harboring terrorism.
As tensions continued to rise, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps located within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). However, the retaliation prompted a series of drone attacks by Pakistan, with over 300 drones sent across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB). Indian defense forces swiftly neutralized these threats, striking key airbases in Pakistan, causing substantial damage to critical infrastructure.
Operation Keller Conclusion
The success of Operation Keller adds another feather to the cap of the Indian Army’s continuous efforts to ensure peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir. With the elimination of three hardcore militants, the army has delivered a significant blow to terror groups operating in the region. As tensions between India and Pakistan remain high, operations like Keller continue to showcase the determination and bravery of India’s armed forces in safeguarding its borders.
