Rahul Gandhi Retains Rae Bareli, Priyanka Gandhi Wayanad: In a significant political development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has decided to retain the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat and vacate the Wayanad seat for his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, to make her electoral debut. This announcement was made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday after extensive discussions with senior party leaders at his residence.

Rahul Gandhi, who contested and won from both Rae Bareli and Wayanad in the recent Lok Sabha elections, is required to vacate one of the seats within 14 days of the results, which were declared on June 4. Given the strategic importance and historical significance of Rae Bareli to the Gandhi family, the decision was made for Rahul Gandhi to retain this seat.
“Party has decided that Rahul Gandhi should retain the Rae Bareli seat since it is close to the family,” Kharge stated. He further expressed gratitude towards Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi for their cooperation and acceptance of this decision.
The discussions included key figures of the Congress party, such as Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and party general secretaries K C Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“We have decided that Priyanka ji should contest from Wayanad,” Kharge added, marking an important step in Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s political career as she prepares to make her electoral debut.
