Kalki 2898 AD is set in the post-apocalyptic city of Kashi, where the once-majestic Ganga River has dried up, leaving humanity in a dire state. The city, now ruled by Supreme Yaskin, is involved in a mysterious Project K, where pregnant women are subjected to unknown experiments. The story revolves around the prophecy of Lord Vishnu’s final avatar, Kalki, destined to save humanity.

Kalki 2898 AD Movie Script Analysis

The film begins with a powerful prologue from the Mahabharata, where Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) is cursed to live forever until the end of Kaliyuga to protect Lord Vishnu’s last avatar, Kalki. Fast forward 6000 years, Kashi is a desolate land where people fight for survival units. Bhairava (Prabhas), a self-absorbed bounty hunter, navigates this harsh world, caring only for profit.

The first half is marred by unnecessary humour and distracting song sequences, slowing down the narrative. However, the interval block rekindles interest, setting the stage for an engaging second half. The second half showcases Ashwatthama protecting the pregnant Sumathi (Deepika Padukone) and features thrilling fight sequences reminiscent of Hollywood blockbusters like Avengers and Star Wars.

Kalki 2898 AD Movie Star Performances:

Amitabh Bachchan shines as Ashwatthama, delivering a commanding performance that anchors the film. Prabhas as Bhairava is both charismatic and entertaining, especially in his interactions with his AI vehicle, Bujji. Deepika Padukone’s portrayal of Sumathi is emotionally resonant, despite limited dialogue. Kamal Haasan’s portrayal of the antagonist Supreme Yaskin is chilling, while Saswata Chatterjee as Commander Manas leaves a memorable impact.

Kalki 2898 AD Movie Direction and Music:

Nag Ashwin’s direction is commendable, blending Hindu mythology with a dystopian future. Despite some pacing issues in the first half, his vision for the film’s world-building and character arcs is clear. The cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic captures the bleak, apocalyptic landscape beautifully, while the action sequences are impeccably shot. Santhosh Narayanan’s music is a mixed bag, with the second half featuring standout scores that enhance the narrative.
