Amritpal Singh, chief of Waris Punjab De, has been on the run for nearly 20 days. So far the police have not been able to find any clue about him. However, it is now feared that he may surrender in a ‘special meeting’ convened by Akal Takht Jathedar Harpreet Singh on Friday at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo.
On the other hand, the Punjab Police and security agencies have also swung into action regarding this matter. The leaves of all Punjab Police personnel have been canceled till April 14. No worker will be given leave till 14, while the already approved holidays have also been canceled.
The police is trying not to enter any religious place. Not only this, even a special search operation has been conducted by the police. However, the police officers are refraining from speaking anything about it.
Earlier, Amritpal had released a video demanding the Jathedar to call Sarbat Khalsa, but the Akal Takht Jathedar, instead of doing so, has directly called a special meeting on Friday. If sources are to be believed, on March 27, when Amritpal Singh and his companion Papalpreet reached Hoshiarpur, they took shelter in a gurudwara. During this, a prominent person of the Gurdwara went to Amritsar and met Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh. Through him, Amritpal Singh had reached there to surrender, but he could not succeed in that.
However, it became clear that the Gurudwara where Amritpal stayed had an old link from there. In the first week of February, he attended the function held there. Posters regarding this have also been put up in that area. In such a situation, the agencies are now fully alert. Apart from this, special nakas are being set up towards the international border so that it can be controlled.
