IRCTC Website Hacked: Man Sells 30 Lakh Rupees Worth of Tickets

The Culprit Running a Railway Ticket Booking Shop

Police have provided comprehensive information about the case. The accused behind the IRCTC website hack is identified as Moizuddin Chishti, residing in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. Chishti operates a railway ticket booking shop in Ayodhya Ganj, Greater Noida. The police have revealed that Chishti had been involved in this incident for the past two years.

Booking Tickets Using Illicit Software

During the interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that he utilized unauthorized software such as Nexus, Sikkha V2, and BigBoss to create anonymous personal profiles on the IRCTC portal. These illicit software tools automatically filled in information like names, travel details, and train selections, and even facilitated payment for ticket booking.

Scandalous Use of Hacks

The person behind the scandal employed these hacks to access Tatkal and VIP quota tickets on the IRCTC platform. This allowed Moizuddin to rapidly book tickets compared to regular travelers. He then resold these tickets at a price four times their actual booking value.

Violation of Railway Laws

According to the police, the accused has violated several laws of the Indian Railways. Using any third-party software for booking tickets has been banned for IRCTC agents. It is essential to strictly adhere to the IRCTC portal using official agent accounts. The police traced the IP address to Ayodhya Ganj, Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar, where Chishti was arrested on Monday evening. During questioning, the suspect was found in possession of 88 e-tickets booked for the upcoming days, valued at Rs. 1.55 lakhs.

Selling Tickets Worth 3 Million Rupees in Two Years

Using these illicit methods, the accused managed to sell tickets worth 3 million rupees in the past two years. It has also been disclosed that he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Chishti came under the scrutiny of the local Cyber Crime Unit due to his unlawful activities. Subsequently, the Cyber Cell alerted the Railway Police Force, leading to the initiation of action against Moizuddin Chishti.
