Metro Expansion to Sonipat: The long-awaited plan to extend the Delhi Metro to Sonipat in Haryana is finally becoming a reality. The proposal to lay a metro line from Rithala in Delhi to Kundli and Nathupur has received approval. The Public Investment Board of the Ministry of Finance has greenlit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor, a project that has been stuck in paperwork for nearly 12 years.
Metro Expansion to Sonipat Approval for Grant of ₹1,000 Crore
Construction work for the sixth corridor under the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro expansion will commence soon. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved a grant of ₹1,000 crore for this project. The extension of the metro to Kundli will provide significant convenience for daily commuters and students traveling between Sonipat and Delhi.
First Corridor Connecting Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh
This metro extension will be the first corridor connecting central Delhi with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. With government approval, Sonipat will become the fourth area in Haryana to get a metro extension, following Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Bahadurgarh. Currently, the metro operates up to Rithala on the Red Line. The new route will extend from Rithala to Narela and then lay a line from Kundli to Nathupur.

The new route will feature a total of 22 stations, 21 of which will be elevated. The stations are as follows:

Option to Travel to Ghaziabad
This metro extension will link Nathupur and Kundli to the existing Red Line, which covers key central and eastern Delhi areas and extends to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. This will provide residents of Sonipat with a convenient option to travel to Ghaziabad via Delhi Metro.
