Mira Rajput Regrets Comparing Babies to Puppies: “It’s About Time I Am Forgiven for That”

Bollywood buzz: Mira Rajput, entrepreneur and wife of actor Shahid Kapoor, recently reflected on a controversial comment she made back in 2017. During a Women’s Day event, Mira caused a stir by comparing babies to puppies, a statement she now deeply regrets.

In her original comment, Mira said, “You know I can raise my daughter, I can be a good wife, I can set my house the way I like… I love being at home, I love being a mother to my child, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I wouldn’t want to spend one hour a day with my child and rush off to work. Why did I have her? She is not a puppy, you know.”

This remark received widespread backlash, with many accusing her of being insensitive and regressive. Reflecting on the incident in a recent interview with Film Companion, Mira shared her regret, acknowledging that her words were hurtful and unfair.

“While I was pushed in that corner for seeming very regressive, I think I probably acted out by saying things… I don’t think I agree with them right now. I think I have come a long way from that,” Mira said. She explained that she was in a vulnerable and emotional state at the time and was merely trying to defend her choices as a mother.

Mira admitted, “I can understand why it wasn’t taken well. I think I was just trying to defend myself that my choices are also valid. I regret that and know that a lot of people were hurt by it.”

She revealed that the backlash she received was a turning point in her life, making her realize the challenges of living under constant scrutiny. Despite still receiving hate for her past comments, Mira expressed gratitude towards her husband, Shahid Kapoor, for his unwavering support during that difficult time.

“I think it’s about time I am forgiven for that because life comes full circle and you make mistakes and you learn from them,” she added.

Mira and Shahid, who got married in 2015, share two children—a daughter and a son. Since their marriage, Mira, a former student of Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, has been in the public eye, often facing intense media scrutiny.

As she continues to navigate her life under the spotlight, Mira hopes that people will forgive her for her past mistakes and recognize her growth and maturity over the years.
