Influence in Political Campaigns
CEO of Emfluence, Bhupendra Singh, emphasized that the upcoming election campaigns will be significantly influenced by social media.
A Historical Perspective
Singh noted that this trend is not new, as social media played a crucial role in the 2014 and 2019 elections. However, in 2024, social media influencers are poised to have an even more substantial impact.
The Emergence of Influencer Cells
Singh suggested that after the IT cell, political parties are likely to establish separate “Influencer Cells” in the coming years.
Expanding the Reach
He explained that in the past, political parties relied on Bollywood stars, TV personalities, and athletes for campaign promotions during elections. Now, this approach extends to social media influencers due to their massive follower bases and audience engagement.
Bipartisan Engagement
Both the Congress and BJP in Rajasthan are planning to engage online influencers, including comedians, bhajan singers, food bloggers, dancers, and various influencers, in their campaigns.
Leveraging Digital Platforms
Singh emphasized that the aim is not only to connect with those who align with the current political ideology but also to reach out to public figures on social media who can amplify the government’s work, especially under the leadership of Narendra Modi.
A Digital Landscape
Singh pointed out that in India, over 240 million people use Instagram, and more than 252 million people use YouTube. On average, an Indian spends around 2.36 hours per day on social media.
Influencers as a Bridge
He concluded that connecting with social media influencers is the most effective way to reach such a vast audience in a short time, explaining the shift in strategy.
