Haryana Government’s Strategic Moves for 2024 Elections: Scheduled Caste Inclusions and Pension Schemes

In preparation for the 2024 Assembly Elections, the Haryana government has announced crucial decisions during the winter session scheduled for December 15, 18, and 19. Final session duration approval is pending Business Advisory Committee confirmation.

The Cabinet, in its Monday meeting, approved the inclusion of six castes from Block-E into the Scheduled Caste category – Ahirwal, Aheri, Heri, Hari, Turi or Thori, and Rai Sikh communities. This move extends Scheduled Caste reservation benefits to these castes.

Additionally, the Cabinet greenlit a pension scheme for third and fourth-stage cancer patients. Monthly pensions start at INR 2,700, rising to INR 3,000 from January 1, 2024. Approximately 22,808 patients fall under these stages. This pension is separate from other social security benefits.

The Cabinet also approved a one-time settlement plan for pending Value Added Tax (VAT) dues before GST’s introduction. Businesses will make a lump sum payment, and the government may waive interest and penalties.

The categorization of the Jangam-Jogi community in Block-E has been modified to ‘Jangam’ in the Scheduled Caste list.

These strategic moves aim to enhance the government’s appeal to diverse electorates as Haryana gears up for the 2024 Assembly Elections. The winter session, slated to begin on December 15, awaits final approval from the Business Advisory Committee.
